The town of Oberkirch is located at the foot of the Black Forest in the idyllic Rench Valley. The legendary Moos Mountains rise up to 873 meters to the south of the town. Mountain vineyards surround the town and the valley is full of lush orchards. This is Oberkirch – the wine city, with its landmark, the Schauenburg, high above the town. From the Schauenburg you have a wonderful view of the city , the Rhine valley and even of Strasbourg and the Vosges Mountains in France.
Only about 20 km west of the French side of the Rhine is the picturesque Alsace region and its metropolis, Strasbourg.
To the east is the Black Forest and the famous Schwarzwaldhochstraße with the Mummelsee Lake and the Hornisgrinde, the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest (1146 Meter).
The monastery ruins „Allerheiligen“ and the „Allerheiligen“-Waterfall in Oppenau, the pilgrimage church „Maria Krönung“ in Lautenbach, the Staufenburg Castle in Durbach, the Hohehnzollern Castle near Hechingen, the Dorotheenhütte Glass Factory in Wolfach, the fortress ruins „Hohengeroldseck“, the fortress ruins „Husen“ in the Kinzig Valley and the Black Forest open-air museum „Vogtsbauernhof” are all attractions worth a visit.
The Kaiserstuhl region and numerous cities such as Freiburg, Baden-Baden, Freudenstadt, home of Germany’s largest market square, and Gengenbach are nearby and worth exploring.
